All About Us

Play Alloa is an organisation which was set up in 1992 by a group of parents to provide a service for children and young people with Additional Support Needs.  We have come along way since the initial set up.  Play Alloa is still run by a voluntary committee but now employ a Project Manager to run the group on a day to day basis.  The project manager is answerable to the committee who retain overall responsibility for the group.

The service provides playschemes durng the Easter, Summer and October school holidays as well as weekly youth club for children and young people with Additional Support Needs who reside within the geographical area of Clackamnnanshire. Our age range is 5yrs - 16yrs although the upper age limit is dependant on the needs of the individual. We are the only group of it's type in Clackmannanshire.

Playschemes. We endeavour to take our young people to places of interest and enjoyment for them.  Some places we have been to lately include:- Glasgow Science Centre,  Loch Ore Meadows Country Park,  Blair Drummond Safari Park & Edinburgh Zoo.  Our youngsters play a big part in deciding where they would like to visit.  Times and dates vary dependant on where we are going.

Saturday Club   Sauchie Hall is our home base. Our club operates between 10.30am and 1.30pm for approx 35 Saturdays each year.     There are two groups within the one youth club.

The younger group - this is primarily for children of primary school age.  An ideal time to meet friends and have some fun together playing with the toys and equipment on offer.  This may include:-  cars & trains,  construction sets ie. duplo, lego or stickle bricks etc.  art & craft - messy but great fun, singing & dancing - express yourself through music and movement,   baking - see their proud faces when they present you with their creations, TV & DVD,  Computer consules.   We have regular visits to the local park for a run around or a shot on the swings.

The older group - Our teenagers can be found here. The youngsters are very involved in what happens within their group.  They know what equipment we have available and decide with us what should be on offer each week.  This may include mechano, remote control cars & bikes,  arts  & crafts - glass painting, card making or a visit within the local area.

There is a charge for both groups of £5.00 per session.  This charge is set to take into account the high staff : child ratio involved within each of the two sessions.  Staffing levels are set according to the needs of the young people involved.

As we are open over the lunch period, the youngsters need to bring a packed lunch with them.

Enroling in Play Alloa  In order to ensure that the service on offer is suitable to your child our project manager will visit you at home to discuss the needs and requirements of your child.  During this meeting there will be the opportunity to discuss  what Play Alloa is all about, ask questions, share necessary information, find out about the staffing levels as well as fill in the necessary paperwork.

During the above meeting a date will be set for your child to begin Play Alloa.  On their first day they will be met by the project manager and introduced to the session co-ordinator and the rest of the staff team.  We ask that you stay with your child until they are happy for you to leave them in our care.
