Our Groups
What Do We Do ?
We employ a part-time Project Manager, and over 8
sessional support staff, dedicated to providing a range of
creative and experiential play facilities.
We currently provide services for 55 sets of parents and 58
children and young adults ranging from age 5 to 25 years
and support a wide range of additional support needs.
We place the needs of our children and young people at
the centre of our services.
By providing creative and experiential learning for children
with additional support needs we:
• Build cognitive skills,
• Improve socialisation and
• Increase confidence and self-esteem
Saturday Club
Our Saturday Club is a youth club which we run from our base at
the Hawkhill Centre. The club operates between 10.30am and
1.30pm for approx 35 Saturdays each year. There are two groups
within the one youth club.
The younger group:
This is primarily for children of primary school age. An ideal time to meet
friends and have some fun together playing with the toys and equipment on
offer. This may include:- cars & trains, construction sets ie. Duplo, Lego or
stickle bricks etc. art & craft - messy but great fun, singing & dancing -
express yourself through music and movement, baking - see their proud
faces when they present you with their creations, TV & DVD, Computer
consoles. We have regular visits to the local park for a run around or a shot
on the swings.
The older group:
Ourr teenagers can be found here. The youngsters are very involved in what
happens within their group. They know what equipment we have available
and decide with us what should be on offer each week. This may include
Mechano, remote control cars & bikes, arts & crafts - glass painting, card
making or a visit within the local area.
This Group is currently supported by Children in Need
although we continue to seek funding to support,
staff, equip and facilitate the group.
Monday Group
Our Monday Group is specifically for young adults. An
opportunity to relax and socialise in a supported and friendly
atmosphere. The young people in this group gain huge levels of
independance and confidence in this group as they interact with
each other in a way that most young people take for granted.
This Group runs from 7pm till 9pm on a Monday for approx 52
weeks of the year.
Age & Transition
We try not to focus too much on ages at Play Alloa.
However, broadly speaking the Saturday Groups are
primary and secondary ages and the adult group is
generally over 16. The main focus is, however, on the
ability, confidence and level of independance of each
individual. Noone is forced to move on, this happens
organically and when each individual is ready.
This Group is currently supported by Lloyds TSB
Foundation for Scotland, Greggs, the Community
Foundation of Scotland and general donations and
fundraising. We continue to seek finances to support,
staff, equip and facilitate the group.
