An interesting and invaluable experience prior to accessing training or educational courses in working with children and young people with additional support needs, or applying to work in this sector
A reference, a vital necessity in this day and age before or after qualifications have been gained
A deeper understanding of the needs of young people with additional support needs
An opportunity to see if this line of work is really for you
WHAT WOULD YOU DO AS A VOLUNTEER?
Play Alloa takes its responsibilities to volunteers very seriously. Volunteers are supported by a volunteer mentor; training is given; and volunteers are placed on a temporary basis so that the best opportunities can be found for all those involved.
Tasks undertaken by volunteers might include:
Supporting play activities in play sessions
Working with small groups
Helping with the setting up of equipment
Encouraging participation in activities
Working in the office
Supporting our fundraising activities
WHO WORKS WITH PLAY ALLOA?
Play Alloa has around 25 sessional staff who are qualified and registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), but we still need extra help during sessions to ensure the best possible experience for our children and adults.
We also have around 20 volunteers, who give anything from 1 hour to 12 hours a week. And we're always looking for more!
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR OUR SERVICE USERS?
Social interaction with others who may be in a similar position allows our youngsters an opportunity to have fun and relax.
Play and social opportunities help children and adults to learn more about who they are and how they fit into the world around them.
This gives them a sense of community, and an opportunity to make choices, take risks and challenge themselves.
If you are interested in volunteering with Play Alloa, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Our Project Manager or Development Officer will be more than happy to arrange to meet you and discuss the opportunities we offer.
